    Sandbank shelters

    Hey guys,

This was taken from a boat exploring sandbanks around the dutch islands. I am aware the composition is a bit odd but in this case i really like it.
    Any thoughts on below photo?
    Thanks again!

    Re: Sandbank shelters

Love this photo! Love the composition! I think this is the first photo I've seen from you here that really works for me. The others are all nice postcard snapshots. But this one is a beauty. And it's the "odd" composition that does it. in fact, it's not really odd. You've followed the Rue of Thirds perfectly, with the horizon line and main subject placed on the lower grid line. And the sky is great - you've got subtle tones and clouds - plenty of content to keep me interested and looking more. You've also got those bits of water moving around the shelters, framing them and keeping the eye moving. As far as content goes, this photo gives a powerful sense of space with a suggestion of man without being too in-your-face.

Very, very well done! I'm making this one a Featured Photo!

Wow.. i didnt expect such a positive feedback. I am glad you like it, cause it is one of my favourites aswel.
Again, thanks for the great comment.

Maybe it is a good idea to tell some more about the context of this photo. These shelters are actually birdwatchers shelters in which the bivak for weeks at the time. I like the fact that for me this photo also has a sense of lonely-ness in it, which i can imagine it is.

That's how I feel about it too!

As far as the image here I think the format of the site (and the internet) prevents the true value of this image from shining through. I think it needs to be displayed LARGE for it to really work but you can see that it is a very nice spare image (in the sense that the photographer has refrained from including a lot of elements to distract the viewer).

    I like it!
    No, I DON'T need that.

Well done, and congrats on the featured photo!
I admire the soft color palette and vastness of the sky offset and complimented by the foreground made up of layers of reflected light on the water. There is a certain elegance to the picture that must be appreciated.
    Very nice.
