Question San Fransisco - Holga Style...

I have been traveling about some recently, which is why I haven't been around lately, and was in San Fransisco.
I did this photograph just as I came into the city off of the Oakland Bridge.
I did it with my Holga.
What are you thoughts, comments, critiques?
    Thanks!
    Brian

Re: San Fransisco - Holga Style...

Brian, I like this. I really think this composition is great, and the dream-like quality that the Holga "achieved" is beautiful. What I really like here is that the entire image feels like it is falling in from the right, and yet the building on the left is straight with the frame holding it all together as being right. Is this how it came out or was there some post edit straightening done? Excellent image, it all works for me. Enjoy your travels

I love this composition and the idea behind this pic, but call me different, but I really don't see how the "Holga" style is a good thing Beside the camera raking in success for it's failures, I just don't see what's so special about this camera. Great shot, just not huge on the 'quality' of a Holga.

    Just my thoughts ,

    Jared

I agree with you Jared on the holga thing. For me, I like to be in control of the process from beginning to end and this hit or miss thing that is the holga, well, I don;t think I could get into that. I'm not sure when this camera came about , but it was most likely way before our digital age, and the images you got from this camera were like "special effects" that we now take for granted in our life is photoshop. But at the time, this was "the special effects" camera in a fun way and I don't think if it were just designed and released in todays digital era, would it have caught on at all. But, I do understand the phenomenon of it's somewhat success, and although I have found myself most of the time not caring for any shots from the camera, these two that Brian recently posted I think are why this camera became famous.
    btw, Brian great Avatar!

    Thanks Gary!
I don't know the full origins of the Holga, but before the Holga came the Diana from the 30's 40's or 50's.
The Holga though was introduced in China as a way for the people of China to do photography. They are cheap, stock reatil is about $16.
I use them becuase they use film and are a fun camera. I like what I can do with them, which is more than you might think. I have done photographs with mine that involved many exposures, usually two, but I have done three, four and one that involved at least six expsoures.
Take a look at my website, the Holga and "Singletrack Dreams" section to find some of my Holga work.
