    San Diego Wild Animal Park

It is my experience after 30+ years of going to the SD Zoo and WAP, that when the rain stops, the animals come out. So, as the rain kinda, sorta stopped, I ventured out and captured these shots today. Hope you like them.

I like the gorilla (?) and the last shot of the bird, I think you could sell that shot of the bird for sure. I was especially impressed with the colors in these images, vivid yet natural without that too vivid look a lot seem to favor.

Maybe you post the image as attachments so one doesn't have deal with load time which is nice of you, but I think you'd get more views if you inlined them like most. I know often I'm in a hurry and I won't take the time to look at images posted like that. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

    Greg/photoheretic:

Thanks both for offering your comments. I had a great time today, animals were out and active and when you get a few keepers, all the better.

Photoheretic: if I understand your suggestion, posting photos "inline", meaning one thread for each photo (?), the last time I did that I was told by the moderator in the future to post them as a group. So,..... but thanks just the same.

I think they are very good shots and love the color. I would like to know what kind of birds those are, especially that one in the third shot. Ugly in a good way.

    Frog,

Thanks for the comments. I do not know what that bird is, other than 4 feet tall and the meanest looking beast in the pond. I looked for some kind of signage with information about the birds, but it was raining pretty hard at the moment I took this so I gave up rather quickly. Sorry.

    Thanks again.

    CF,

These are some really nice shots. The color is spot on and the they're all very sharp and nicely composed. Print these large size.

Prevailing Conditions: Thanks very much, I really appreciate the kind words. I enjoy your work so this means alot.

photoheretic: no problem, and thanks again. Either the SD Zoo or WAP would be a great place to visit.

    From the top.

#1 Orange Bird-The colors immediately caught my attention and drew me in. I was put off at first by the overall softness of this one but you got the eye nice and sharp so I ended up liking it a lot.

#2-Gorilla-I'm thinking this one is nothing special. The focus is not all that sharp and the lack of color after the amazing first image hurts this one. Plus there are so many amazing gorilla images that we have all seen that with the bar set so high this one isn't anything special.

#3 Another Bird-this bird is so odd looking that you can't help but be drawn into this one. The colors are nothing special but your composition succeeds in distancing the bird from the background. You did a really good job getting that brown tree trunk completly in front of the bird, it adds a nice vertical element to this Portrait crop.

#4 Yet another bird-you really seem to do birds well. You did great here with the tonal range-the white neck has detail and so do the black feathers. Those delicate colors on the feathers came out perfectly.

#5 Yellow bird-I love the detail in the feathers but the eye and beak are soft. I think you could have gotten away with more DOF here as the bird is nicely seperated from the background.

    Go shoot more birds!

BTW I wouldn't have gone to all this trouble writing about all of these if I didn't like the entire set a lot.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such great detail comments. I have taken your remarks and looked at each shot, and you are correct. So, it has helped to receive this feedback. Thanks again.

Re: San Diego Wild Animal Park

CF - They're well done... The first one almost seems like an animal glamor shot. #s 3 and 4 are especially well done. # 2 is strong also. The only criticism that I could mention would be that the last one seems to have too strong of contrast. Nice work

    GB/Yoyo:

Thanks so much for the great comments. I was very lucky on this day as the weather kept away all but the hearty; I nearly had the place to myself. Thanks again so much.
