    Sailboats at Sunset

This may be a little too stereotypical, but I kind of like it . What works and what doesn't?

As Rick so aptly puts it, I'm here to learn.

    Thanks,

Stereotypical, I don't know. I think the reason we all can't resist shooting sunsets is because they are beautiful, just like this one. I like it!

PC, I think this one is done very well. The boats are silhouetted nicely, and there's a great feeling of calm here.

Beautiful! I'm a big fan of sunsets, and this picture demonstrates why - The way the light is filtering up / down through the clouds looks lovely.. And the boats look perfect silhouetted against it .

I sure wish I lived anywhere near a body of water, so I could capture the sunset at its prime.. But I'm stuck with hills and grass for miles. Oh well! Must make do with what we have, eh?

I think if you cloned the round object in the middle of the frame a PSed the two fisherman in the boat down some and made a bit of seperation between them and the boat above their heads it would make it a better picture.

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments from everyone. I'll have to print this one up and see how it looks.

Greg, I will try removing the round thing and see how it looks as well as moving the fishermen down some. Thanks for pointing that out.

What I like about this is the depth you managed to capture.

    Excellent work.

I think the two in the dingy heading for dinner is an added bonus.

dont remove the buoy. It adds to overall authenticity of the scene. What would fishing be without a buoy? may even me a marker for a trap?

    Re: Sailboats at Sunset

    Just saw this! Nicely done.

You caught this at the time when there's enough to color to highlight everything without the sky overwhelming the rest of the scene. For me that makes this work on levels more than just a display of a brilliant sky at sunset. The people in the dinghy are what gives this a lot of connection and depth in the composition.

Nice choice of slight drop shadow for presentation of the photograph on the web.

Well done waterscape and silhouette as much a sunset.

Thanks for sharing this one. Frame it proudly.

Thanks again to everyone who has commented. I think Frog really put it best though, I was in the right place at the right time and I happened to have my camera with me.
