Just came across this old photo takekn wiht a Mavica.
Makes me want to go back and see if the hotel and lamp are still there and use the A2 !

I'm not sure about the roof on the right that you can see through the window.
What else could do with improvement?

I imagine it is better on a print, or maybe my monitor is at fault, but I'd like to see a little more of the lamp.
Beautiful country and a good shot to give a feel of both the hotel and the surrounding scenery. I'm not bothered by the stuff on the right.

Yeah, if the subject (or a subject) is the lamp and the light from it, lets see more of that lamp. Its hard to get a sense of the hotel room itself. I'd pop some flash to make sure both enviroments are well exposed

I tried with flash on the day, and wasn't happy with that either.
I think I needed to put a brighter bulb in their lamp

I wanted the light of the lamp, lit from inside, balanced against the outside.
When I used flash it washed out the bulb light, and lit up lots of internal detail that were hidden by exposing for outside.

Bottom line is I don't think this works, and unless I wait until evening, it's not going to.

...unless you take 2 photos, one with proper exposure inside and one with proper exposure outside and work them together.

and I'm no expert at flash positioning, but if you had an off camera flash that you could control the power of it may be possible--if it you just popped a little small bit of flash so you'd be able to bring out the room features easier in photoshop

I agree with the other posters about seeing more of the lamp and the room. The scenery outside the window is beautiful and the wall/bldg on the right does not bother me either.

Yes, if I go back and remember the a tripod, I'll do that.

I've tried a bit on PS elements, and I think I need to get the full Photoshop not just the cut down Elements that came with the camera.

I've looked at this image a few times and if you want my honest opinion; I don't think the image works for me. The landscape has potential, but all that brickwork is really distracting me and it doesn't work well together with the landscape or lamp, because each one of them gives me totally different feelings when I look at them.
Bringing out more details in the lamp is only adding to the distractions and the lack of focus; suddenly the lamp, window frame, bricks, landscape and dakr/light areas all struggle for attention. That there isn't any depth of field, sharpness or strong composition isn't helping the image either. That's just the way I look at it. Don't get me wrong; I do like the idea behind it, it just think that it's not executed in a way that works for me.
Sorry if I disappointed you, but that's just how I personally look at it.
