    Rustic Area Tracks

with a little effect thrown in.

C&Cs welcome -- I'm not sure it needs all the track at the bottom?

An interesting effect although not sure I can really comment on it directly. I thought I wanted to see something else in the scene, on the tracks but the more I look at it the more I think it works as it is, the tower in the centre of the shot in the distance has caught my eye and the rail tracks are leading me all the way to it each time so this works in my opinion, interesting stuff!

Herriot - Thanks for the feedback, but why can't you comment on it? Even something off the top of your head is valuable to me, as it tells me what immediate effect the image has on someone. Anyway, yes perhaps something on the track would be interesting, not sure what though. I tried another crop, thinking that it might work better as a super wide format. Here it is..

I love the First picture, and I don't think that it would work as well in anything but black and white. The proportions of the first picture make my eyes jump from the close up and detail of the foreground and then to whats at the other end in the distance. The second picture doesn't do that for me and I seem to view the whole scene at one time.
    Nice Photo.

At first i thought, yeah it needs all the track at the bottom. But after seeing the crop, I like the crop version much better. It's much more packed with info that way.

Well the first impression is that the shot works but I am not sure of what technique you have used to arrive at this result, it certainly works but it isn't something I am familiar with, how did you do this?? I agree, the crop works very well and would be my preference of the two.

    Re: Rustic Area Tracks

I can't decide which version I like better. I like the first for the reason stated by bwood and I like the second for the reason stated by Leels. Whatever effect you did certainly enhances this photo. It reminds me of a pencil drawing. Very nice -- and I'm not usually one for pictures of buildings and train tracks!

    Thanks for commenting :8:

Paula, Herriot, I used Corel PhotoPaint's Local Equalization effect. I haven't seen any other filter in other software do what it does.

I guess most prefer the crop, but I agree w/ bwood that the full has its own virtues, namely the vanishing point and the ability to lead one's eyes to a particular destination. As Liban pointed out and I agree with, just seems that the bottom is too plain compared to the top, which is more cluttered and interesting.

D, I see what you mean about a softer sky. The effect does strange things though, you can't really figure out why. To me it looks like a storm..

I shot this in El Paso btw, about 1 or 2 miles from the Mexican border and Juarez, which is probably the most dangerous city on the planet right now. :eek6: I think that's part of the reason I felt this rustic effect would work, even though I didn't reveal that till now.

    Re: Rustic Area Tracks

I love the 2nd!! you might even try a panorarma type deal with a crop across the top and just down to the building top on the left? when I look at It that way my eye naturally goes right down the tracks! not sure If that would work tho? It woudn't leave any sky
