Re: Rude awakening ...
Juzzus - It's ok, but might suffer from the lack of a strong subject. The pier doesn't qualify cause it's too flat and plain. The foreground ripples are great supplemental material, esp for a foreground. The clouds are great, alas far away.
Overall, not bad at all, it just needs a little stronger subject. The B&W conversion came out good, IMO.

Re: Rude awakening ...
Hi Juzzus,
When given the choice, and you have, I have to go with your color version over this black and white image. http://forums.photographyreview.com/...ad.php?t=10835
I feel that the strong subject for this one was your colors and silhouettes. Without the color it loses a lot of the interesting parts like the couple on the pier, the details of the people in general and the extraordinary light. While you have retained the tremendous sky, textures and reflections I think it does not compare with what you lose in the translation.
Regards,

Re: Rude awakening ...
The B&W has it's qualities and so does the colour version. But I prefer the colour version. I really like how you capture the cracked sands and the such in your shots. A bit too contrasty, but that's your style as I've seen it in a lot of your shots. I'd tone down the skies a bit though, the top part is too bright. It's a keeper. Did I mention, I really like your shots buddy? lol. Good shooting

Re: Rude awakening ...
Thank you guys for taking the time going thru the color one and then share your precious thot about it ... The only reason i wanted to do it in a monotone version as i like the cracked sand captured in the FG a lot and i thot the monotone really brings out the texture of it well ... ;)

Re: Rude awakening ...
I think they are both great, though I too prefer the color. But I would not discount the B/W. It is a strong image and I feel that the "Cracked Sand" offers enough interest to hold it's own as a subject.

Well, I guess I'll go against people and say that I much prefer the b&w over the color version. Simply put, the color saturation seems exagerated and the sand is so "gold" that the foreground ends up drawing a whole lot of attention.
The people are less noticeable in the b&w but in the end, it's almost better, kinda like a reward after a close inspection. The textures and the lighting comes out superbly well in your b&w and its overall simplicity works for me. I don't feel that it lacks a subject, it just works as it is as far as I am concerned.

Re: Rude awakening ...
I'm with Seb. I like the B&W better although they each their own feel. This one seems more somber and quiet. I really like the way the cracks and the sky both lead to the bridge allowing it to really bring the picture together. Great job.
