    Row Boats

I went to a small lake today and I saw these boats. The color wasn't too good so I opted for B&W.

    I welcome your comments.

    Thanks,

I think both shots have their strengths. The top one is more mysterious. I can't quite make out the subject or the geometry, but I suppose that has me guessing. The bottom one's geometry is creative and off-beat. I do think however that there should be more space at the top above the boats - you agree?

The B&W is a nice twist

Yeah the top one is mysterious alright. What's the top left water or sand? I like the bottom one too. the perspective is really strong and the crop is unorthodox and the black and white tones are right on. It grabs my attention very well. I think if it only had the three dominant boats it would be a lot stronger. The 2 cutoff boats on the edges take away a bit from this IMO. But I enjoyed both shots.

I like them both PC. The second I wouldn't change a thing on. I like the composition and your b&w conversion a lot. The first, while I like the shot, I find my eyes wandering a bit. I might tone down that first upside down boat. Maybe add just a slight blur or something especially to the numbers just to make it a little less of a focal point.

    Re: Row Boats

I very much appreciate all the comments. My original intent was to look at the area for a later trip when the light was better, but I liked the boats so I shot a few.

On the second, I would probably have preferred to have more vertical space as well, but I couldn't get high enough to make it work out. The top portion (which I cropped) has a dock with some other boats and was really distracting.

The first picture is of these same boats, but taken from the left side of shot #2. At a larger size, the grain of the seat is more prominent.

Leels, I also agree with you on the other boats. Maybe I'll have to do some moving when I go back.

    Hi PC,

I like both of these shots. I like the way you framed the first one, but it doesn't look very sharp. The background is kind of washed out too, but I can see you had challenging lighting to deal with. I think the second shot is the best of the two. I wouldn't change a thing. Good subject for b&w.

I really like #2. IMO, it also seems a perfect candidate for a fisheye if you have one.
