    Re: rotary telephone

ECH -- Wow, ain't seen one of these puppies in quite awhile.. looks like something that have sat in my grandparents house. Pretty soon I wonder if we'll see hardly any home telephones anymore, with the popularity of cells.

It is more of a documentary type shot, for the angle isn't super creative. The exposure isn't too awful bad ... a few reflections in the plastic, but I find the photo very 'cramped' overall. There just isn't enough space around the phone from the edge, and the top of the phone and the cord is outside the edge. I don't know if there was some reason for you doing this, but it doesn't do the phone a lot of justice... gotta take another approach on that, IMHO.... it just doesn't work.

Anyway - you have a good potential object here, especially for nostolgic shots.

Love the pencil clip, this has a lot of potential.

Shoot in color and do some post processing to just keep the pencil color, back off a bit on the crop, use soft lighting. (Wax paper or paper towel + lamp would soften it well, just dont forget to turn it off when you're done.)

    Nice 'spin' in the photo!

Will agree that a more dramatic angle or perspective would strengthen the image.

Using the handset in a more dynamic fashion would add to the photo. Placing it at an angle to the base or propping it up even might be a possibility.

If you are going to continue with the square and blocky approach, show the whole phone and perhaps use an additional light source to add dimension with another shadow or highlight some 'feature' of the phone.

Older pieces of industrial equipment in good shape such as this can provide lots of possibility. Looks like you've one that will provide several images for a study perhaps?

    Keep the 'spin'.

I didn't know they made them in white now!
Had a crank phone when I was a kid..2 long and one short was our ring.

I agree that it is too cramped and not having the back edge of the phone and rest of cord detracts. I keep trying to find them.

Looking at this shot again, I think I now realize that you were going for straight, block angle so to stress the simpleness of the phone, and the era. I think that's a good idea... just didn't see it at first.
