    Rose... help

Hopefully I'll have light like today tomorrow and can try a reshoot before it opens up some more and changes the shot.

My thoughts on this are more DOF for the buds.
Rotate slightly right to move that bud in the front so its not directly in front of the rose.

    Any other suggestions?

I concur, I think your self assessment is spot on. You may even be able to rotate the bud stem around the blossom with your other hand (or a pipe cleaner, piece of wire or whatever) to keep the light hitting from the same angle, but get them to a better position.

I find the lighting a bit harsh. try for a cloudy day and keep other buds from getting in front of the subject, or make a subject of the bud. with the flower providing the bokeh.
    Look through a glass eye.
    Give it a few tries.
Nothing goes right in its time.

LOL, Frog! You go for the direct approach, don't you?

Thanks guys, will see if I can get a reshoot today after work if it isn't storming.
