Interesting shots, though nothing jumps out to me as being stellar. I do actually enjoy number 4, the shadow adds an interesting effect, but the flowers are quite standard and don't offer anything unique IMO. Maybe a black and white with alot of contrast would help the last one.

Nice try, and nice to see your girlfriend got you flowers...I wish my girlfriend did that!

They seem a little soft, and I believe with better light they would have stood out a little better. That said, you had the right idea--now it's practice, practice, practice.

I would suggest moving in even closer. Most of the point and shoots have what I call the Flower Power button, basically it's a teeny macro. It's made just for getting in close on things like this. I agree with the others I like the shadows with the flowers don't know how intentional that was. Perhaps some selective color on the buds and black and white throughout the rest of the image while upping the general contrast would be something you could try.

I find them a bit soft as well and that may be the lighting or it may be the compression (I'm seeing some issue on the first shot). I like the shadows on the 4th because they are so distinct and mimic the arrangement so well.

I like what you are doing with the sepia (the first shot). I'm wondering if maybe something a little lighter might not be better for the delicate look of the flowers? Just a thought.

I agree the last one may look interesting in b&w. They all seem to be suffering from lack of sharpness and incorrect white balnce. Try these again, but keep the flowers much further away from the wall in the bg so as not to cast the shadows, unless you are intentionally going for that.Try getting in closer for some shots and set the camera to Macro. Also, what editing program are you using. You might want to try the auto color step to see if that removes the unusual color casts and brings some livelyness to it. I actually like the second one best as it has a soft painterly feel to it

There's several issues here: lack of sharpness, dull lighting, lack of contrast, and all the colors are too close to each other in tonality. The purple background with the shadows just doesn't do it for me. I agree with C.L. that moving in might be one way to make the shots better - worth a try.

Re: A Rose By Any Other Name....

    Thanks everyone for the comments....

Jared, that was one of the last pictures that I took and I liked it also for the shadow effect, I'll try again with the contrast and in b & w... I was also surprised when she stopped over and gave them to me, very lucky guy.....

swmdrayfan, I know what you mean about the light... I have to find a better place in the house with more light.... and like everything else practice, practice, parctice.....

CLKunst, I looked thru my camera's book and didn't find anything for a Macro, but still looking.... The shadow was one if the first things that I seen so I ran with it.....

dbutler, I am looking around the house for better lighting situations and hope that works better....

gahspidy, I didn't changed the white balance, new camera, so I'm looking into that right now and see what happens with the next shots that I take... The programs that I have a the moment are "Zoom Browser EX", came with the camera, and "IfanView"...

GB1, I going to try to move in and see how it comes out...

Thanks for all the help everyone, now I'm off to practice.....
