    Rocks and Water

This is another picture from earlier this year. Although I didn't like this picture that much, everybody who sees this loves it. Some outside opinions would be nice, because i can't see whats so good about it.

    Re: Rocks and Water

What I like about this is the "rock" looks like such an improbable object to be "floating" in the scene on top of the water. The shape of the block and the contrast of the two visible sides gives it some depth and interest and I think the broken up concrete at the bottom heightens the illusion that this is floating. I am a little torn about the horizon which looks titled just a bit and I find myself wanting to straighten it. Just my two cents.

    What's good?
The illusion that the block might be floating somehow, contrasting the man made angular block with the natural shapes around it, the colour of the natural world against the grey of the concrete, it works on so many levels.

It doesn't need straightening, because the block is straight, horizontal and vertical.

That's yet another contrast between the local horizontal and vertical of the block versus the sloping tree line on the hill behind the shore, and the shape of the lake shore shown in the off-straight horizon line there.

I think the others have said it all, but I'm sitting here wondering if the same effect is had when blown into a big print. I hope it does.

    Very good composition
