Rock N Roll Marathon (Water Station Blues)

Volunteered for a water station at the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon this last Sunday. Since they had a pretty decent turnout I was able to shoot some pix (about 650 !!!) of the elites before the main crush arrived.

I should have read my camera manual beforehand. The predictive autofocus didn't seem to work ( ), but probably because I didn't set it correctly. :blush2: I tried shooting manual focus but WHEW, that's hard !!! My hat's off to the sports photogs that do this stuff!

I was able to find a few that didn't seem too bad but had to do a lot of sharpening, reducing the quality. How do they look to you, quality-wise?

Re: Rock N Roll Marathon (Water Station Blues)

I think the quality of the shots appears to be fine on screen here. This set of shots really has me laughing though. It seems none of the runners are able to get a drink of water at this station. (good title. . .Water station blues) All the pics look fine, and the set as a whole is very entertaining and humorous. I don't know if that was the intent, but it works for me.
    good stuff.

Re: Rock N Roll Marathon (Water Station Blues)

    Thks for the feedback, fellows.

I guess at 640 px they don't look bad but at 1024 they were pushing it. The original size was 3872, there was significant blur, and many were on the dark side (it was overcast). Sharpening and adjusting the images (Levels, etc) really pixelated the bright sky if it was visible. Also, if you look close you can see artifacts around the outline of the runners. But the small size hides it somewhat.

Gary, these are definitely the funnier ones even though the title was more about the results . Here's a few more shots.
