    RNR Marathon

Snapped away at the Rock n Roll Marathon this past Sunday at the 25 mile water station. Runners usually don't look too great by then, but the elites never show it.

Shooting action is pretty fun though I am still learning a lot -- C&Cs welcome.

    Re: RNR Marathon

Haha, when I first saw this thread I thought 'RNR' was 'Rest and Relaxation', and I thought you were being ironic saying 'marathon'.

It is interesting seeing how muscles freeze in photos like this. I like the 6th most, maybe try shopping the persons hand up and to the right a little bit. The perspective obviously makes the image distorted, but I think it'd be funny.

hmm maybe I cant put it in words so I'll show you what I mean.

Thanks Anbesol. Yeah the shot you modified is one of my favorites from this event, shows the physical side of running - muscle cramps, exhaustion, and so on. Not sure about that edit, seems a little silly Anyway, thanks for taking a look

The last shot is my pick, less the oof hand, I like the way the clenched hands show her pushing through the pain barrier

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

The fourth one is very good, with all those hands reaching out and adding to the excitement.

    Re: RNR Marathon

Thanks fellows. As a long distance runner myself, it is pretty impressive watching the elites; they're super competitive and everything seems to be in 'balance' with them - breathing, form, physique, mental aspects.. I think this comes through on the last photo. The gal second from last - number F16 - looks like her legs were cramping up on her, something I have heard happens with the top runners but had never seen it (it happens all the time with the middle of the roaders like me).

I haven't shot many different sports, but I am starting to think that each have different 'ideal' photos. With runners,I think capturing their determination and grit is important. With volleyball players, their form and athleticism. With bicyclists, I hear you don't want to freeze them but pan to blur the background and possibly them a bit.

Maybe asking oneself "What would be the ideal shot to get out there today?" before shooting a particular sport is a good thing to do? One could then do research beforehand to try to answer that and then put yourself in position to get it ...............
