    Riviera Maya resort, Mexico

Our building at the Occidental Grand Flamenco Xcaret, just south of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Took this on our honeymoon last year, the night before Tropical Storm Claudette hit.

Very nice. Peaceful and great muted colors. I like that there a a couple lights directed onto the water to define it's surface but it doesn't ovewhelm the reflection.

    Hello Kelly,

I like this one a lot. Your composition works well but the key point to me here clearly is the lighting which almost look like a set up (in a positive way) considering how it magnify the building.

    regards

Your sure are a world traveler. I love the image you have been sharing from your travels. This is a very good water refection picture great color and very well composed. I love it when people take the time to get good longer exposure images. Do you remember any setting here? Thanks for sharing.

    Painterly

What I like most about this shot is the subtle, warm lighting, and the really inky colors that you pulled from the water reflections. Very cool indeed. Not bad for one of those Wisconsin types. ;)

BTW - greatest avatar ever. Maybe you could tie a few on one of these days and see if you can mimmick the look of Bill the Cat. Or maybe your husband could take a shot at it. That would be truly momentus and worthy of recording as part of this young forum's history.

    Jealous!! (in a good way)

Kelly this is fabulous! My Mexico trip was cancelled the day of the flight! I am loving your shots from this trip!
I think this is great, the muted colors are good, , but I wish I could see a liiiiittttle bit more of the top of the building.
I think the reflection is pristine.

    Awesome!

VD, not to make you more jealous, but this is a different trip. We went to "Cancun" last year for our Honeymoon (this resort), and then to "Puerto Vallarta" this year for our anniversary. I put the cities in quotes because we didn't actually stay in either city, we were quite a ways from each.

Too bad your trip was cancelled! What happened? Where were you supposed to go?

I have a sliver more of the top of the building, but I had to rotate this shot like half a percent to get it perfectly straight. That's where that sliver went.

Puck, thanks for your comments. I was just in love with trying for night shots at the time. I had no idea the colors would turn out so wonderfully inky. And I'll let that Wisconsin comment go, this time ... ;)

Oh, and Puck, keep watching my avatar. I've got an idea, but I won't implement it until I get my pen pad set up on my computer.

Old Timer, too bad I don't remember my settings! I can tell you I took this with film, but beyond that, it's been over a year and I just don't remember. Sorry!

I'm glad you're enjoying my travels. It's a fairly new experience for me (well, within the past few years at least). I just find so much to take pictures of when I go to new places. I think travel photography is my "style". But I also love long exposures. I adore light.

For this one, I waited till about 11 pm, when everyone was gone but the lights were still on in the pool, and I set the camera on a lounge chair since I didn't have a tripod. It was, again, one of those "hold your breath and push the button" shots. I seem to do a lot of those. I wanted a shot to remember The Night Before The Hurricane. It was sooooo calm and peaceful, but I had been tracking the storm for several days, and it was set to hit within 32 hours. It was all so exciting.

Seb and Chunk, thank you so much. This shot surprised me. Of course, when you do long exposures, you don't see through the viewfinder what the final result will be. That's the fun of getting your film back!

    Doh!

Kellybean! Sorry it took me so long to reply back! I stopped receiving notices about posts in my email. Oh well.
My would be trip was for my 20-something birthday. I was heading to Cabo (alone), and the flippin' plane had a defunct seatbelt (or so they told us), so I got to spend 17 hours at Casa Del Oakland Airport (the closest I hope I ever get to hell) with about 60 of my new friends and rounds of cocktails at 8 a.m. hahaha. Needless to say, I passed on the Free Hotel and Dinner voucher (was good for the out of towners, but at the time, I lived approx 10 minutes from the Airport). The airline was telling the people to stay the night and depart the next day. That flight never did take off. Oh! To top it off there was a bomb threat too! That was fun. I was almost escorted out of the airport for yelling "What Bomb?!" into the phone as my hubby relayed the message to me, as he was watching it on the news. Sheesh... by hour 17, I just wanted to curl up at home in bed, so I bailed and got my moola back. My coworkers found this all to be most amusing, as they had a flight booked through the same crappy company *** Coughcoughsuncoughtripscoughsucks!cough*** for exactly two months later... and their trip was fine!
Someday I will head back.... maybe I'll just drive to the border. ;)

So on that note- your pics are all incredible. I love them!
