    Great detail, very sharp and I like the make up of the overall shape, have you dropped this ice onto a black surface?

    Thanks Herriot, much appreciated.

    I really like the detail I was able to capture as well.

    As for the background, it's actually the river itself. The photo was taken mid afternoon on an overcast day. I did darken the photo slightly though.

    I love how it looks like it could be floating icebergs or a close up of delicate ice chips... It even has an 'under the microscope' quality to it.

    I like it for all the reasons already mentioned. It could pass for either a close-up on a small ice patch or an antique aerial view of a sprawling glacier. Very compelling image for that reason alone, not to mention the stellar composition, contrast, and sharpness.
