    Rising from the Wasteland

This image of a couple students in urban Philladelphia reminds me of the opportunity for escape that education provides to those who have no way out. Comments and critiques welcomed.

    Re: Rising from the Wasteland

Works for me on all levels.....love the muted color....showing hope rising.
Even like the give away bag, that just works when you can't afford Nike.
Like the guy in the back looking down the track too.......waiting for his train to come in.
Shoot, the wires even work in this one.....they're all over in that enviornment...........Matte it. Frame it........Sell it!
    Look through a glass eye.
    Give it a few tries.

Yes it is one of a series of shots that really were unique in my mind. The asthetics of this shot are not top quality tho.. Theres the tree branch at to the right of the first subjects face and the vinegretting at all four corners. I'll post one of the other shots from the series momentarily. Thanks for the comments snoid.

    Re: Rising from the Wasteland

OK I'll grat you the vignetting on the upper right......Look long enough and I can see it on the lower left. The branch doesn't bother me as it's in the wires.
I can't see any of those issues in the new post.
It has a different feeling though........a bit more lonely.
Great stuuf in all. The vignetting should be solvable in software. Or a burn in.

This is quite good and creative.
In both shots I'd like your subject to be further into the scene. Not a lot but some.
I'd like the other subject in the first separated some from the corner of the building.
    Keep Shooting!

I'm going against the flow with that top shot........I find the wires intrude too much, and there's a little bit of a tree branch that ought to be cloned out on the right side. The second shot works for me on a couple of levels. I prefer it to #1

    Re: Rising from the Wasteland

I also like the 2nd shot better than the first. It looks "natural" where as the first photo looks a bit too "posed" for me, especially the gentleman in the front. He looks stiff and slightly uncomfortable.

The composition of the first shot is nice, but the second would almost be something I'd put on my wall, though I think it might look much better in black and white rather than the muted colors.
