    Retired Lighthouse

    Do anything for ya?
I'm now thinking there are too many shadows.

Beautiful black and white picture and I love the lines of the briks and the patio on this one. To be honest, the shadows aren't a major problem here, atleast on my monitor. One thing that I find out of place is the little black line on the roof, just PS that out and it's an awesome shot!

Nice tonalities. Correct your vertical lines and you will make this old largeformat shooter happy

    Dear mud,

I really like the composition in this one. And I like the b&w alot too, but that's because I shoot b&w anyways .The texture on the lighthouse really is appealing as well. I would however say that the blacks are not very rich. Did you use digital? My favorite film is Ilford FP4 Plus, and one of the reasons is that it has rich blacks and good contrast. Your picture does not have this. But this is just my personal preference, pay it no mind . I hope you don't mind, I fiddled with it and changed the levels a bit to make it richer, plus a little sharpening. hope you don't mind!

Not at all, I like this muuuuch better. You've brought out the texture of the stonework very nicely. I just recently acquired PS Elements and am trying to get better acquainted. The original shot (A70) included most of the building, so I cropped & removed the color from there.

Thank you all for the positive notes...

    Re: Retired Lighthouse

I like your original version best, although if you wanted to just bring out some more shadow and tone you could just pass over the bricks with a slight burn brush. You are now losing detail in the sky and the area above the roof is appearing blown out. As Terry stated just straighten out your vertical lines.. I am a bit bothered by the dark Wheelbarrow? in the right bottom corner, but not too big a deal. Not a bad shot.
