    Reflections

There is an insurance group that has a building in downtown Kalamazoo with reflecting glass windows. I got this one this morning while I was in town for the local art fair.
    Your thoughts?

    John,

My thought is. . . THIS IS GREAT! I really like the concept you have here and you have executed it very well. There are definitely lots of interesting things to look at and analyze. What's this, what's that? I had fun piecing together the scene it must be reflecting in my imagination.

    Good eye!

Thanks Cindy...that's my wife in a three panel section (third panels in, top three panels). You see her from the shoulders down (top), the waist up(middle), and her head(bottom). Makes me think of a Rubic's Cube.

Im lovin this. It's great how everything seems exposed properly, and the repitions showing slightly different POV.

    Well done.

    Very abstract John!

I like it. Love the lines and the boxes that seperate the scene and shows every section in a slightly different perspective, so one can't really make out the exact scene but sorta gets it.

Thanks payn and Liban. I actually took three shots, but this I think is the best of the bunch as there are more panels showing. I probably could have thought up a better title, but 'Reflections' seemed appropriate at the time.

AwesomeAwesomeAwesome. I love the multiple moments in time. Kind of like how an electron has spin in three axis simultaneously in the same time continuum. I guess you could call this a Photographic Study in Quantum Abstraction. Sorry-getting geeky again. Any physicists out there who remembers what principle this was called? I'm thinking it was the Bernoulli principle, but my memory is pretty dusty when it comes to physics (it's been 20 years since I had physics in college). anyway, great vision and presence of mind to see that through your camera's eye.
Sometimes I miss the cities. It's where my abstract creativity comes to life best in the viewfinder, but out here in the foothills i'm having to re-adjust my camera's eye.

    Re: Reflections

Much appreciated, Lionheart. I don't know physics, but I couldn't resist this one. I've seen this a million times, but until Saturday never thought to try and capture it. The time and light seemed right, so I took a few shots.

Just in case anyone's wondering, the building is concave in front, hence the angle of the windows.

    Re: Reflections

I was thinking it more like a compound eye (biologist not physicist) but whatever you compare it to, it's a good shot.

If I was to nit-pick ... no that wouldn't be fair.
Not much point looking for verticals in this scene !
It does feel a little off-centre to me though, not that it's a bad thing.

It'd be great to see this printed large.

    Re: Reflections

Compound eye:-) Right you are Paul. Don't know why I didn't think of that living out here in the country with all the bugs, and me being a biology/zoology major-shame on me. btw, I think I remember the electron spin thing-had soemthing to do with the Pauli exclusion theory or maybe the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, but it has been too long. Bernoulli has to do with change of flow rate through a pipe of changing diameter as I recall now.
in any event, great photo :-)

    Paul,
    Nitpick away.....that's why we're here.
Incidently, I think I know why you might find this slightly o/c. There's a little more room on the right side. I hadn't noticed it initially, but have gone back and cropped it so both sides look a little more balanced. I also resampled in IrfanView, but still have a few jaggies.

    Re: Reflections

    John,

What an awesome shot! You nailed this right on! Beautiful job - you have a good eye. I could look at this image for a long time....and more than once. As a matter of fact, I did.

Thanks for sharing it with us. Any possibility you could present this image to the "owners" of the insurance company for an ad possibility.......and make some profit? I would think their product "insurance" might use this along with some clever lines to make a great advertisement. You never know!

    It is excellent.

Liz, you're too kind. I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I'd be curious to find out. I look at it this way....when I start racking up a few 'featured photos' , then I'll know I've got some potential.
Thanks a bunch, you made my day

This is such a cool shot. It really reminds me of some sort of a puzzle, and the colors are wonderful!

Thanks Emily. Right time, right place, I guess . This is definately worth going back to........about 10 minutes from my house. I just might try this at night sometime, just to see how it would look.

    Re: Reflections

John, this was well spotted and captured. Looks like a series of many small scenes layed out in a sort of symetry, but knowing this is abuilding panel with the images of the surrounding area makes it more interesting even. If i had any nit pik on this, it would be to expose the shadows a bit more and reduce overall saturation slightly. good work on this.

    Re: Reflections

It ocurred to me that some people might think the verticals in this are off....that's because the structure is concave....there are no pure verticals. Just clearing that up.

    Re: Reflections

Very nice shot. I like how it plays with your eye when you first look at it. I did notice it being a little off center, but definitely a nit. It reminds me of that display at the cable company with all of the TVs stacked together showing all of the channels they offer. Very good eye.
