Red Square

Hi all

This is the last of the Russia pics I will put up.

It is Red Square in Moscow. The problem to be solved is that Red Square is VERY large (!!!) and there are a lot of tourists about. (A lot of photography, in my experience, is about problem solving). So I found this angle looking across a restricted area which enabled me to isolate a crowd control officer. The buildings behind the red wall is the Kremlin. The smaller structure on the far right (of which you can only see a corner) is Lenin's tomb.

I think you solved the tourist problem by including the guard with the bullhorn. Nice touch.

This is very nice, well exposed travel photo with a story to tell. I like the fact that it is not just a picture of the red square, but also a picture of the people and the current "restriction". It seems you also used a polarizer here, which is a good selection for the time of day (maybe I am wrong).

Thanks llewpics and Arne. No, I did not use a polariser in this or any of my Russia shots. Although I have one in my bag, I rarely use it. I do however favour a good boost in saturation and contrast in my post-processing, which can give the impression it was polarised.

I should say that the so-called 'restricted' area was only a bit of Red Square allocated to traffic - nothing sinister about it at all!

love the A shape triangle of the trees vanishing to the right, then pops up the big A shaped green triangle in the architecture. the composition is good. placing the guard between the trees on the left is perfect. i even like the harsh shadows only because they create more lines. something this photo does well.
