    Red, Ripe and......

Something a little different for me in that I usually don't do studio type work. My lighting techniques need a lot of work. I turned our kitchen into a studio after work yesterday and started pulling things out of the fridge to shoot. I was inspired by one of Alison's post in her 365 blog. Maybe I should have posted over in the lighting forum, but let's have a go at it here first. Rip into it guys.

Look delicious. You could always touch up the brown on the leaves a bit. Also, I found that soaking strawberries overnight in water really plumps them up. - TF

Good insight into improving the looks of the subject in the future and on improving the image as it now stands. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Agree with the even lighting comment, usually something like a 2:1 ratio is preferred but as always some experimentation is needed to fulfill one owns taste. The other detail I see is that the green leaves is to dark maybe this could be retouch in PP.

Larry, looks very good and I'm happy to see you experimenting with other things and lighting like this.
The lighting looks nice , soft and even, but maybe too even. I think a bit of a stronger light shining on one the the strawberries to get it to stand out a bit more will help. You could always try dodging a little more accent light in certain areas.
One other thing is i'm not crazy about the placemnt of the strawberry in the back. Its blocking the shape of the berry in front of it as well as losing some of its own. I think moving it a bit over to the left and maybe angle it another way so all three berries shape and leaves can be defined. Its not bad really, but something about its placement feels like it hindering the other and it.
All in all, this is very nice and I'm only being critical because. . . .this is the place to be critical
please do not edit and repost my photos

Thanks for taking the time to critique this photo Gary. I felt the lighting was a little flat but couldn't seem to get the highlight like I would like. You make some good suggestions about solving that and about the placement of the elements. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment.

    Thanks for being so brave!

I haven't ventured into this type of photography, but it does interest me, so I will be watching and learning from your example and the feedback you receive.

My original critique was to say excellent work, and IMHO the brown on the leaves adds realism. However after reading Gary's comments I agree about the placement and lighting, I guess we can all learn from reading comments and restudying the image. Still a very striking shot.

I agree with you and Gary about the placement of the back berry. Some what in my defense I was attempting to hide some discoloration and imperfection in that berry and just got my placement out of whack. Thanks for the look and the comment.
