Red Buds Are Blooming in Oklahoma

Haven't shot much lately... been too busy getting a new laptop and sending off two (count 'em...2) cameras for repair--both under warranty, thankfully--but last weekend the Red Buds were in bloom all over, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

This was one of my favorites, with my neighbor's cattle in the background. Whatcha think? Red (or pink) flowers with cattle enough of a subject?

What? The fence gives it that bucolic character. Don't you know?

I think that I like it. I have passed many pastures trying to think of a way to take a picture of it at a different angle. This is certainly different. The composition if fine. It seems a little soft like it might need sharpened some but other than that it's fine.

Hi RS - they're blooming down here in Texas too. They're maddening to shoot for me. They're quite beautiful to look at on their own but you have to mix them with some other element for them to work photographically I think. I've had a hard time doing that (see my blog a couple of entries down for some of my samples). I think you have a good idea for starters, but it needs a stronger/simpler element? I don't know - this subject has been confounding me a bit. ;)

Thought -- if it were me, I would forget the cows (subject of another photo shoot) and focus in on the flowers and maybe the barbed-wire fence.

    My 0.02 cents.

For me its too cluttered, The building, cows, fence, hedgerow just breaks up the picture too much.

The branches don't seem to be connected to the tree and that throws me a little. I think if you backed up a little and captured more of the tree then it would be better.

However saying that I would go real close to the flowers to make them larger and try and get a cow or two in the backgraound a little out of focus.

    Just my thoughts.

I like the exposure of the buds. But the scene is probably too zoomed in for effectiveness. I see a wide-angle shot here, maybe showing the wire at an angle to produce depth. Sorry, but it just seems too cluttered up as is.

    Happy springtime btw.

Re: Red Buds Are Blooming in Oklahoma

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I guess it wasn't quite clear, but the point of this particular photo was to capture the cows, the pasture, and the fence as my "view next door", simply adorned by the Red Buds. It was just one of many shots, so here are a couple more from my user gallery that may be more like what you were thinking...
