Okay guys I really need to know how to improve. I know I need some umbrellas. But Britney let me practice on her. So here you go.

Re: Real Model pics(NO DOGS) this time

As you mentioned the big thing here is the lighting and exposure.

    First picture:
I like the composition of the photo, but the lighting in the shadows (especially the hat is far too dark.) I find my eye get sucked into that black hole.
    Second & Third Pictures:
I like the pictures, but too dark. Again lighting... But there looks to be enough detail within and probably some adjustments with levels and such would make these "too dark" pictures into something much more appealing.
    Forth Picture:
Again, the range of lighting. The shadows (top quarter) are too dark when compared to the highlights (bottom half). My eyes get shot out of the highlights (BTW I like how you incorporated your copyright notice in the picture) and sucked right into the black hole again. Again, some level adjustments would help greatly on this.
Overall, I like the setup and angles of the pictures. But as we all know, as photographers we are all in the battle to find that delicate balance between too much light and not enough.

On the second and third, I would really consider adjusting the levels some. I think you could really pull a nice picture out of them.

PS: It's great to have a model to practice on.
    Cheers,
    Greg

Re: Real Model pics(NO DOGS) this time

    Hey there...

Well, the first thing I would say about the shots is that basically, I don't get them... I don't feel what you are trying to get at. I mean are they fashion shots? mood shots? stock photos?

Regarding a more technical approach... the light sure could use fixing.

In the first, it feels like she was too close to the lights, as the background is not lit enough. Maybe going there earlier during the day would help the situation, as it would cast a nice light on the whole scene. Also, if the direction of the sun allows it, why not use reflectors (which could be any reflective surface).

The 2nd image is too centered for me... specially since I do not see any reason for her to be centered. The 2nd and 4th do take on a similar "fashion" feel, but it is not so obvious. in the 2nd the light needs just a wee bit of adjustment.

The 3rd image, is cropped a little too tight. The hat is cut from the top... other than that... it's a dark...

The last image, I believe has the most potential of the bunch, as it holds a certain mood, theme and movement in it. I look at it and i see this as an ad for your site, which is beautifully placed. But if you can retain more space for the front wheel, it would be better in my opinion. Depends on the original.

What could have made it better, was of course more lighting to the top of the image. Alternatively, if the point was to advertise the site, the a lower angle, and a bit to the left, so as to focus on the front wheel, with better lighting on the model would work too....

But at the end of it, it should be light and exposure... so maybe with the setup that you already have, you could play around to get the proper exposure....

    Hope this helps...

PS: haven't posted in a while... I will have new pics up soon.

Re: Real Model pics(NO DOGS) this time

I agree with you all. Thios was mine and hers first shoot. We had alot of fun cracking jokes . Only lighting I had was my SB800 flash . I have some real good shots with the flash on the ground but my card will not let me open it . I can see it on my camera but not on my computer. I am caving up for umbrellas . The last shoot I was about to fall off the loading dock and was at 18mm on my lens I will play around with photoshop some more. I have great pics but have to much shadow it the back ground.
