Very cool. I can't think of one comment. I love the detail.

nice catch C. He's partially blocked by the leaf he's standing on, but this is still much better than anything I could get (butterflies must not like me )

This is not a typical butterfly pic, imo. It looks a bit like a Sci fi still. the composition is balanced nicely. the focus is right on the head, although a bit more dof might have helpd bring the rest of the wings in a bit sharper. There is a leathery look to the texture of this butterfly. This is also an unusual perspective. looking up at it from underneath rather than the typical looking down or straight on. Very good,

Yes - excellent stuff. The small failings (already mentioned) fade away in light of this very unique take on a familiar subject. On of the members of my camera club is a butterfly specialist - I must have seen hundreds of his shots but I have NEVER seen one from this angle and with this feel before. I think even he would be impressed.

Love the shot, would have liked to have had a similar angle (maybe from the top) on a shot I took of a ladybug a couple of weeks ago (I've also posted it).

    Re: Ready For Take Off!

Thanks for the great comments everyone! This was a very big butterfly wingspan of probably 4 inches so even with F8 it still looked like shallow DOF.

Gary, I like your description of a Sci-Fi movie, I saw a bit of that in this one as well.

Mike, I am glad to hear that this one looks just a bit different to you, that's what I was looking for. In the room where they keep these butterflies everyone has a camera so I was intentionally looking for shots that would be less common.
