The second one is nice but I do see some noise in it. Maybe you shot at to high of an ISO. Always shot at the lowest ISO you can. That will help eliminate the noise problem. A good tripod will help as well.

I'm far from an expert but I find critiquing others helps me see better -

#1 - Brrrr. I don't even want to think about it.

#2 - I like how you captured the lighthouse. I think I might explore some cropping to tighten it up a bit. The bland shy is doing nothing for you and there may be too much water also. Try taking all the sky, about that same amount on the right, a little off the bottom and enough off the left to put the lighthouse 1/3 of the way in from the right. See what you think.

Re: Ready to get the first blows from experts

First shot probably isn't worth the aggravation to save. The two stems that are far out of focus in the foreground are it's biggest obstacle. The other two stems would probably have been interesting enough on their own, but I probably would have tried a more downward angle to get the white snow fully covered by the darker background - I think it would help them "pop" more, but I do like the dent in the lower pile of snow that mimics the upper branch.

Other than the noise that Greg mentioned, the second shot is pretty good! Depending if the original file is big enough, you might crop some off the top and right to get the subject to fill the frame a little more and place it on right 1/3 line rather than so close to the center.

I am overwhelmed with your replies. I had only 20 odd photos from my last trip and tried two of them to check if I can get some tips from this forum. Thanks to all. Hope I can post some of my better shots soon.

The cropped light house shot is much better compositionally.

Yeah Jetrim also do liike it The composition looks more neat and complete..
But I have feeling that I am missing the vastness of sea and lonliness of mind...which was present in the first version..

Nice job on the lighthouse. The crop is a definite improvement.

Its a lovely photo indeed. I tried to further reduce the noise and bring some detail to the lighthouse if you dont mind...it came out looking a bit like an oil painting!! LOL!
