    Re shoot: homestead

I kind of screwed up, I missed the magic hour, I almost got a ticket trying to get here before the sun went down. I arrived just after sunset, I decided to set up and give it a shot anyway. I used 15 seconds @ f/11, and for grins I got as close as a could and fired off my 430EX several times at the house, the spreader, and the foreground. For my effort? I ended up pulling a hamstring during one of my sprints to fire the flash.

You did very well, quick thinking. What we want do to capture an image. I wish it wasn't quit so centered but a very beautiful capture and well worth the efforts. I hope the old leg is ok...

    Re: Re shoot: homestead

Considering that the sky was not terribly interesting and there was nothing terribly interesting at the bottom of the frame, I suspect that centering was unavoidable. I am impressed that after sunset, you still managed to get good lighting, exposure, and colour. It was worth the effort.

    Re: Re shoot: homestead

Thanks Ron, Greg, yes that is exactly the reason it ended up centered. I missed the magic by about 15 minutes, there were some thin clouds over the Bighorns that lit up pretty well, unfortunately I was about 10 miles away then.
Thing is, I was wasting my time getting poor shots of a band of bighorn sheep that wanted to stay in the shadows, I just kept hoping they would come out in the sun, that caused me to be late getting to this shot.
I think one of the things that frustrates me most about shooting in this part of the country, there are so many many great things to photograph, unfortunately everything is very far from everything else. This homestead is about 2 1/2 hours away from home for me, a long snowy drive across the mountains on a day like yesterday. I can't get there as often as I would like, and light worth shooting in only happens 2x a day. I would like to go out every morning and evening for a month to this location, but that would involve a lot of driving, or quitting my job. So the light is hit or miss, if I happen to be there on the right day, I might get something I really like, mostly though it's miss. And I often compound the problem by trying to get too much in one day, like yesterday. I thought I could maybe get some wildlife with a low sun, and then catch the sunset at the homestead. I got neither, and a pulled hammy.
