    The Quiet Pool

I feel like I did something wrong or I'm missing something, but I can't figure it out. Any thoughts? A low res scan from my 645. I did bump up the contract a bit, perhaps too much...

    Thanks for looking.

    Re: The Quiet Pool

I like the comp and subject.
You may want to lighten the shadows a bit. The far left and right seems too dark
and I can't make out much detail.

    Just my 2 cents worth

    Re: The Quiet Pool

The image looks tilted to the left and keeping detail in the bright sky has killed your shadow detail.

Love the reflection and the colors in the reflection.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I see the tilt as well. I think a grad filter would have helped bring out detail in the sky.

Ironically, I was using a tripod and a spirit level IIRC. It's a strange geometric shape wonder if that effected it, I'll reshoot it closer. I'd like to get more of the reflection in the pool.

    Thanks

looks like a good subject, it seems tilted, and very dark on the sides.

    Re: The Quiet Pool

Hmm. This is a tough one to critique. The very things I like about it are also the things that I think hurt it.

The composition is interesting to me. It shows a dark area on the left under the tree that seems peaceful, but at the same time opens up to a human friendly pool and sitting area. The buildings in the background show that you're not as removed from the city as it initially seems. But at the same time it seems compositionally lopsided, due to the dominant tree. The walls are unaesthetic and almost make it seem like a prison. There also doesn't seem to be any particular subject. Perhaps the pool is, but the angle is so sharp that you can barely see it.

The lighting is quite interesting too. Seems like Germany's Black Forest. I agree that it seems tilted btw. In my limited experience I have found that it doesn't matter what it really is but how it looks. Unless you're shooting for a editorial shot, that is.

Beautiful picture. I love the color, you caught the water at just the right time. I would personally PS out the building in the background, to me it takes away from the nature feeling of the picture.

    Snap it up
