    Purple heart

This was taken in Washington at the WWII memorial. It opened on memorial day, and I got there the day after. I thought it came out pretty nice but I would like to hear others opinions.

hey there...for starters I'd have shot it with a little more breathing room on the bottom and a crop of about a fourth of the pic off the top...try it in BW or sepia to help focus on the actual medal as the subject as it stands it's too busy and converting i to a more neutral color might help the overall look... good eye for details and keep em coin' just my 2cents

I think it is good but like what has already been said, I think maybe B/W would do this alot of justice, and too maybe frame it a bit different, maybe more of a straight on shot and wider. Great pic though, I would have love to see the WWII Memorial.

After reading your explanation I felt a lot different about the photo than I did when just viewing it. I initially thought it could be a photo of some sort of protest with a medal rejected a la John Kerry because it's laying in the trash and dirt along with an a flag and some document with a German swatstika. I couldn't figure out why there was a"We love you daddy" message in the mix. After reading your note, I understand why they are there and feel quite different. I think it would be hard to take this photo so it could stand on its own without needing to be explained. It's a tough subject and You made a good effort. If this scene could have been taken with part of the monument in it, it would be a strong and poignant shot.

Technically, it looks like the shot is lit by skylight, giving a flat, bluish look. The scene is quite cluttered, but isolating the medal more would make it even harder to see the story. Because it was posted at a large size, I had to scroll to see it all, reducing the impact of see the image as a whole. Here's a smaller version with some of the bluish cast removed.

Rereading this it sounds too negative, but I don't intend it that way. Keep up the good work.
