    Purple Flower

I started taking photographs recently and think that I might have a knack for it. This picture is of a purple flower in my front yard. I love it because it is so simple, yet so beautiful. I just wanted to know if I or the photograph had potential. Thanks in advance for the critiques and comments!

Very nice, it looks three dimensional !

With flower photographs I like to make the background as dark as possible, that is during post processing.

I think it's a good shot. The background is blurred enough that it doesn't distract. A little more down tilt would have gotten rid of that single flower (tulip?) in the upper right and a very small amount of fill flash could have brightened the flowers without bring out the background more. At a shutter speed of 1/60th of a second, I would be better off with a tripod to hold the camera perfectly still. The colors are beautiful - especially to those of us in the color-starved north. - TF

    Re: Purple Flower

Lauren - Welcome to the boards. I like your shot and the purple color against the green background. I really like the way you used a wide open aperture to blur the background, which separates it from the grass. The only thing I don't think works too well is the wall showing in the far right; I like it purely wild.

I think from what I see here that you have an artistic eye, but I don't know if I'd jump on photo boards and start asking strangers to make a quick judgment on your photographic potential. With art, things tend to be a little more subjective and you have to dabble in it for awhile before you can tell if it's for you or not. Feedback is great but one picture is just that.

    Anyway, welcome again.
