    Purple

My son told me: "There is a cool looking bug outside. Get your camera."

    Thoughts on the picture?

It's a cool bug alright. Not that keen on the body cut off as is, but maybe a vignette or gradient to soften the edge

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

Good work with macro. I like the colors and the pose. Wish to rope was more natural looking ...but what can you do about that ....

Very good. I agree about the rope. Maybe it could be colored, darkened, etc., to stand out less. Were it me, I might bring a branch in from another shot and replace the rope altogether. It's just that the bug is so strong that I'd want to eliminate everything that detracts.

Killer shot, otherwise. Sharpness and color are fantastic.

    Re: Purple

First impression was what is it - I think the bug needs a to be lightened to make it stand out and the nylon braid darkened, because as it stands its the rope that grabs the attention. It looks quite crisp but difficult to say at this resolution and darkness.

Good composition but being a bit picky a tad more room on the head side would make it perfect.

Wonderful macro. I wonder if you can draw out the shadow areas a bit in PP.

Thanks. I have always shot Nikon and currently own 60mm and 200mm micro lenses (Nikon calls their "macro" lenses "micro.") I have also owned several copies of the older 105mm micro. I mention that by way of recommending the Tamron 90mm. It is the only non Nikon lens I use and I have been very, very pleased with it -- often pairing it with a Tamron SP 1.4x teleconverter. I don't know it the cost difference vs. the Canon 100mm is extreme, but it might be worth a look.
