    Puppy Playing

    Hello All,

Took some pictures of my puppy playing in the yard today. With overcast skies this is one picture, as I shot over 100. Shot in Raw and only resized to upload here. C&C are very welcomed.

Thanks for the comment but the was the hard part. To get her sitting still for just the right moment while we were out playing. I only got this as a car or some noise from the alley, which is the direction that she is looking, distracted her just long enough for the picture.

Would it not be the same if it was a human sitting for a portrait?

yes and no, in a portrait a person usually shows body language in some way, the dog does a little but not much. You posted this photo to be critiqued I have given my opinion.

I like the photo and the pose? I know how hard to get the puppy to be still. I have been trying to get a shot like that of my Stafordshire Terrier for 2 weeks now. Is that a Rotwiler? Very nice looking pup

Actually, I think her face shows a lot of expression. Her body posture is very alert, slightly tense. Her ears are up but slightly back-- alertness but no aggression. Clearly looking at something, but not fixated, there's a slight softness in her eyes. Curiosity.

LOL, did I over read it?

All and all... It's a lovely portrait. I always loved Rotties.

    Re: Puppy Playing

Excellent shot in many respects. It's well composed, except perhaps her head being a little close to the top of the frame. The DOF is perfect and the toy at the front of her is fun, though perhaps it could be a little farther out in front of her (she's guarding it well, there). Maybe a little more light on the top of her head,.. not sure how'd you do that though The only bad pt though is that she seems a little confrontational instead of playful, but maybe that's the way this breed looks?

    Re: Puppy Playing

    GB1,

Thanks for all the comments. I think the confrontational look is more of an alertness or startled from the noise in the direction she is looking. She was just gnawing on the ball when the noise happened and looked up.
