    Public Servants. . .Water Fountain.

Another series i had in mind to put together called Public Servants ( retired and active)
This is one of several so far in the series.
What do you think, any appeal?
    Thanks

Love it! What an interesting project to take up. This image is really fine Gary. I especially like the tonally correct soft focus couple in the bg. The vertical and sweep of the water fountain is so STRONG. You should have an ample selection of subjects for a project such as this too, since New York has so many older communities with similarly classic "Servants" (light posts, mailboxes, etc.). Can't wait to see what else you find!

P.S. It might be cool to include the servant's "name" in the title; like this one could be Public Servant. . . Murdock. Just a thought.

Yes, it has appeal. it looks almost like two images put together, and at first I thought I would like to see it cropped verticle at the edge of the darker building, but then it was just another pic.
The couples dress has a checkerboard effect. they look to be an attractive couple(I'm a sucker for tall thin brunettes!)
My point is that the couple are the subject to me as my eye is drawn to them. They are a mystery to be figured out, while the fountain, a secondary element, stands by ready to serve.
Sometimes I think you do this stuff by accident, lol,
    Mark.

I agree - Its a great shot! Those streetlights (or whatever they are) in the background do catch my eye a bit, but I dont think it detracts from the photo as a whole.

CLKunst . . .I think your idea of naming it after the subjects manufacturers given name is an excellent idea. Although there is not always a name visible, the ones that are can be named accordingly. Thanks for your thoughts on the image. I already have a few images such as this of various things such as old fire alrm boxes, fire hydrants, fuel /oil meters etc. but had just decided to go after this as the series of Public servants

Mark. . . .you have an interesting way of breaking things down and then putting them back together again Actually, I was sitting on a bench with my 70-300mm zoom ( at about 250mm} waiting for the right couple/person to walk into the area on the right. Most people were walking by down the middle which placed them in the wrong place in the composition. I did not want them in front of the building, but rather with their heads in the sky to the right, as it is. btw, Mark, I did take a vertical shot as you had suggested.

dbutler . . .You touched on the one thing that i was dissapointed with in this shot. While the boardwalk lights do not actually bother me , its my placing of the fountain. I placed the bowl of the fountain in the lighter awning area of the building in the bg so that it would stand out strong, but, I did not want the edge of the bowl to touch the light post next to it in the bg. The fact that it touches the post feels wrong to me, and a bit of space between would have gave a finer balance or feel
