    Portraits

The forgot about the shot in the leaves until I found it today. I'm a noob and can't remember to check my ISO setting before I shoot.... so both shots are noisy. Not much editing done on either as of yet.

    Thoughts?

LOL, I'm worried about my monitor now... I can't see any noise. I think these are both very good. To nitpick, I would say the crops are a little too tight (maybe just for my taste).

Welcome to PR, I look forward to seeing more of your images.

I think the crops are right on, you just need a catchlight in the eyes to bring out the character more. a little on-camera flash serves that well. I like the second shot, i would like to see it bigger though. her bangs also intrude on her eyes a bit. Good start to portraiture.

Ah, I think livin4lax09 got it... it isn't the crop, it's the size of the images. One thing I missed before is the hot-spot to the right of the girls head in the first image (should be easy to fix).

Thanks for the input! I'm still tightening my processing skills. The Gimp can be.... challenging.

have you tried gimpshop? I hear it's a bit more user-friendly.

I have. It is a bit more PS-like but, underneath, it's still The Gimp. It's also a couple revs back from the current release. I figure, if I'm going to learn the app, I may as well not "cheat"... it'll just bite me later on.

I'm waiting for a hint from Adobe to see when the next rev of Elements is due out. If it's CS3 based (I'd be surprised if it wasn't), I'm all over it.
