portrait of a race car driver

    C&C encouraged and welcomed..

I was trying to show that Race car drivers have more to them than the rough and tumble exteriors that we usually see. Did I achieve my goal?

very nice lighting. i like the subject sitting with the little puppy..it does convey that he loves the dog.

not sure about the angle...it is a little extreem, and i think it takes away from the overall look and message of the picture.

background...not sure if the background is relevant to your message...if he is a racecar, maybe show more of the car...even if it is not in focus...but, i do think the truck light and printing on the window is distracting and doesn't add to the picture

try straightening it up...and blur the background a little...i think you may be a little happier with this shot.

It definitely conveys what you want it to. And it's a really cool idea. But I'm thinking it might work better desaturated some or as an all-out b/w.

Can you shoot him again? I'd love to see some closer-ups and/or different backgrounds.

Thanks for the commetns guys. They definitely do help. I was worried about the angle but the clients liked it.

I will be reshooting with the entire race team. I will dial the angle back a bit on the reshoot for sure.

The Truck is the team truck and the lettering was necessary as that is the race team he belongs to. Those were the clients wishes and I agree that they are a bit distracting taken out of context but knowing that everyone on the team will be having that logo in the shot somewhere brings the context into focus. The logo on his hat shows the team colours as well but they wanted it to look like they were race ready and relaxed as opposed to being stressed out waiting for the cars to be ready.
