    Question A Portrait - Holga...

    More new work..
This is another portrait from what I have been doing lately.
What are your thoughts both good and bad on this one?
    Thanks!

    Re: A Portrait - Holga...

I like this photo, good tones and I like how she is slightly of centered, her placement is good. Everything looks level and nicely composed.
However I believe this would have been a much stronger picture if the top was cropped and all you got was the stairs. This would have provided a nice back drop for her and give a pleasing composition for the subject.

I have never seen you crop a holga shot before, so I don't know if this is an option.
The crop would still provide enough vignette to make it seem not odd, although you would lose the border.
I'm always mentally photographing everything as practice.

    Thanks PT for your comments.
But, cropping is not in my Holga aesthetic.
When I did this, I was trying not to get the top of the steps. A Holga viewfinder sees about 75% of what the lens sees. So as you can imagine it can be challenging to frame some scenes.

I really like this Brian. Could use some more contrast, but I think it works well enough as is. Great background BTW.

I agree with much what PT said.

I LOVE the steps as the background for her.

I like this capture also, but you should try to pull more out of the negative. On one hand the image seems flat but the whites are blown out. Some dodging and burning in the dark room or in PS using the levels and curves might give you a better variety of gray tones.

After just processing my latest black and white film that I put through my Holga I am just extremely envious!

Agree with the comments that some more contrast might help the image but I think that the composition is a winner and is testament to your Holga skills.

    Thanks for sharing!
