    portrait

This is one of my favorite pics that I took last summer. I loved it, but would like to know what the portrait queen thinks. My daughter Ollie (right) and her bf. Comments welcome from others as well. Thanks

I like the bright red of the sweatshirt and expressions of both subjects. I also think the lack of background works well here. The total focus of the pic is your daughter and her bf. (They could practically be sisters.)

    Fun shot.

    Re: portrait

Oh dear what'd I do to deserve this? LOL

Well let's start on negatives here, although, for a fun candid shot, there aren't any really.

If you were trying hard to get a portrait to hang, I would probably have posed them differently. For instance having them back to back or laying on the floor and you shooting dowwards or just having their faces closer together.
And maybe cropped it slightly differently too. Unless it's an in camera crop in which case you can't do much about it. Not enough around the edges for framing, but, then again, that probably wasn't your intention when you shot it.
(I am always shooting like that and end up getting keepers! Not backing up enough but I find that if I set up my shot too much I miss the emotion).

But like I said, this shot looks like it wasn't planned. Almost like your daughter was posing and the bf jumped in at the last minute like my kids tend to do, (the twins are usually the culprits for that).

The exposure is very good. Colours and clarity are great. Nice backlighting and I'm a sucker for close-ups and angled shots.
All in all a lovely candid capture.

Thanks Allison. BF did jump in at the last second, so it was an accidental shot, but then we get the best pictures that way sometimes. I am also a sucker for the up close. I love head and shoulders portraits. The eyes and the expression are what I want to see.

We were out and about around the park that day, just snapping pics. Here are a few that were more posed, then the first one.

    Re: portrait

You want these 3 cc'd also?

The first shot - Exposure is very good. I don't like the crop.

The second shot - WOW! Excellent portrait. Excellent exposure, colours and clarity. Wonderful pose. Although, posed it's very relaxed and natural looking. The composition is perfect. Great use of the rule of thirds. Love the use of triangles in this one.
Shame about the hair band on the wrist though. I shot my niece's pics the other week and didn't realise til the end that she had a hairband on her wrist! *sigh*
Very lovely portrait which is pleasing to the eye.

The third shot - Nice relaxed poses. Good exposure and clarity again.
I'm a bit distracted by the one white spot on the right of the picture.
The composition isn't too bad, but again, the bf is a bit close to the frame.

The first shot, nice backlighting. Too bad the two don't express the same emotion. The right one seems kinda wait too long for the shot, or is it just me :-p

You got some photogenic kids there. The image in your opening post is great as is the middle image of these although all of these shots are fine. The kids seem really relaxed for the camera and that is a big part of getting winners.

What to the BFs parents think of the shots? One would expect that they would be quite pleased.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I had a few of them printed up and framed (4 X 6). One set for my daughter and one set for bf. Her parents did love them, so I had an 8 X 10 printed of her in the tree (she was the one in the middle pic) for them.

Isn't that the biggest reason why we all do this? It's a great feeling when somebody looks at one of our pics and they just go "wow!'. It's better than a paycheck.
