    Portrait

This is the only member of the family who would let me play with my Christmas toys Canon 430EX flash and my new reflectors.

    How did I do?

Hi Roger .. nice catchlights in the eyes; good out of focus background; best of all, no modelling fee

    Re: Portrait

I'd say you did a fantastic job with your flash and reflector Roger.

Good rule of thirds, great clarity, lighting and dof.
    Lovely colours and catchlights.
All in all a wonderful portrait.

I wish my first attempts looked as good as this. It's taken me a heck of a long time to get where I am today and I'm still not happy! LOL

Mike, Thanks. He even refused bananas as payment :

Alison - WOW - thanks for compliment - I think mine was easier than flesh tones to capture. However, I can't remember you taking a bad one EVER and your models are a lot prettier than mine. Thanks for the reflector tip as it made a big difference to the shot in banishing shadows.

    Re: Portrait

Roger, this brings back some memories for me. . . When I was a tike, I had complained to my parents that I wanted a Brother. My mom took me out to the store and bought me a giant Blue gorilla, looked just like this. . . .but blue. (It did not help much and I wound up beating up on it often) I think I revealed too much here . . . .
Anyway, you've done well here with the new gear and I know you'll get better with it as you get the hang of it. The left side of the subject is a little dark and could benefit from reflector. I get the feeling we will be seeing some more portrait shots coming up. . .
Look forward to seeing your progress, Roger.

    Re: Portrait

You caught my old boss there - how'd ya do that, considering all that water separating you two?

Decent shot, I am happy that you got him to stand out so well against a dark background.

    Re: Portrait

Thanks for looking, I must a admit I was quite pleased with my initial trials at a portrait.

GB Its a really huge lense with 4 tripods a satellite and a huge reflector to get your boss; never new you worked for my brother :

The only light in the room were the christmas tree lights behind him, reflector to the right and the flash going up and to the right to bounce off ceiling and reflector. What pleased me more than anything is that the viewfinder on the Canon Pro1 let me focus manually in that light - astounding camera.

Gary - To much information; but now that you mentioned it I had a monkey to and I used to beat him up. I had a sister too so no excuses on my side for beating him up. Hmm! perhaps another reflector required or just more lights.

Jaedon - the rest of the family won't let me post their images but my brother doesn't mind as long as I feed him plenty of bananas.
