    Please critique

An old house that I figgure will be buldozed soon for land devlopment. On Apple Valley Rd in you guessed it, Apple Valley, there used to be a couple of ranches and acres of alfalfa fields but no alfalfa (sp?) has grown for a several years, and the one big ranch has torn down its fences and stables for what I assume will be track housing. Those things that I felt gave our town character and country living feel are going by the way of the dodo. Makes me a bit sad (I've lived here for almost 3/4ths of my life)..

Let me know what you think.

    the last one

is close to giving it that nostalgic feel that's nice about buildings that are no longer around as far as function go...but the angle and maybe the lense (what did you use?) are kinda making it too tight a composition.

I'd say either get closer or way farther (to show more of the feel of how unused and barren this area is.)

    Hope that helps some

that does help.. I'll give it a try. I do have to watch out for the encroaching housing tracks in the background. The last one is my favorite.. Thanks for your comments!!

What time are you shooting these?

I would try earlier morning or later in the evening. Might give you a more interesting sky, and some more dramatic shadows might give you a more "abandoned" look.

Also agree with Nat, zoom out a bit, and get more of the area.

I would like to echo the above comments. The composition is too flat. I would go as far as to get real close with a wide lens.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

I do like the middle one best as i like the warm tones going on here, but would agree with Seb in getting closer with a wider angle lens so we can see more of this house surroundings placing the scene in a better perspective and point of view for the viewer I would say this scene had lots of potential that you will capture with a reshoot

Thanks everyone.. Actually, I shot this pretty late in the day. The sun was way low in the sky directly in front of it. I drive by this house everyday to and from work and for day's I've wanted to shoot it but I never actually stopped. I was in a hurry to get home (been working long hours) but I thought I'd not procrastinate any longer and shoot it while it's still there. But since I was in a hurry, I just drove through the field and shot from the car. I'll try again maybe today or tomorrow. I'd like there to be some clouds in the sky but up here in the high desert, it's not often we have that. Yesterday afternoon some puffy clouds came out of nowhere but I was stuck here at work untill 9:00 and they are gone today.

If I get closer I might not be able to incorporate the irrigation sprinklers in the shot. Do any of you think they add to the photo?

Ps. I should've mentioned in my original post that I used my Sony F828, iso 64 to shoot those. don't remember the rest, 'cept maybe it was about at F4??
