    Playing with the moon

Here is a picture from a very popular location ( maybe one of the most photographed sites world wide?) but with a little different spin on things.

Living in moab this summer hass allowed me to visit delicate arch when ever i feel that the pictures would return something swpecial, more than most visitors get to see. so when it was full moon on tuesday i decided to head up and try it out. the moon rose after about 45 mins of pitch black after the sun had set, and my canon 1s is only allowed me to leave the shutter open for 15 seconds so the pics came out very dark and i had to lighten this alot. i also converted to black and white because the moon star was the only thing not, and the yellow made it look funny, but i can post the color version if anyone wants to compare.

    Re: Playing with the moon

Nice twist on Delicate Arch. I bet even at that time of the evening there were a horde of people out there.

The shot's different but I wonder if the burst is as effective as just a short exposure that shows the moon as it should look. Normal meter readings dont work here - you have to underexp it a little (not sure with digital cameras though). But if you did that, I guess the arch wouldn't be visible. You could do a double exp: the first very short for the moon and use a flash on the second one for the arch?

    Re: Playing with the moon

actually when we got there ( about an hour before sunset) there were relatively few people maybe 10 there. moostly i think, because it was overcast, and the sun wasn't even hitting the arch when it normally does.

even with the 15 sec exposure i had to lighten these abit to see the arch well. i had a flash light and tried to light it up with that but it wasn;t powerful enough. I guess if i go back for the next full moon (last one before i leave) i'll try taking 2 shots like you said.

is it different enough to not be boring? i was looking to not having the same ole shot of delicate arch. and which do you like better, color or b&w?
