Playin' with a new toy - product table

I was happily surprised to find a new product table under the tree this morning. After taking care of the "some assembly with no instructions" that was required, I wandered around the house looking for things to shoot

Here's the whole setup. This is not the $560.00 Monfrotto table, it's half as wide and a third shorter (2'x6'), but perfect for smaller items and tight spaces. It's sitting on a lightbox because it really is a bit short to set on the floor, so until I can procure some longer tubing, this will have to do...

Jet you are all over the place with the projects you do and have vastly improved on them all, What next underwater shots? LOL. These are very good I do see a strange shadow on the dragster and roll. Other than that I think they are very nice.

Probably should have adjusted the fill light higher, the shadows are coming from that - bottle top above the roll and engine or rear tire in the dragster shot. There are a lot of little details I find I need to pay more attention to in studio work. This is pretty much the same skill set as model/portrait shooting though, so it's not that big of a leap.

There sure are a lot of toys to play with in the photography world. Why the curves? What is it made from?

Re: Playin' with a new toy - product table

    Paula,
The curves are so that there are no hard edjes in the background, just like a cyclorama wall in the studio. It gives the smooth gradient from light to dark in front of and behind the subject. The back is on adjustable hinges so you can control the gradient more. The surface is made from a semi-transparent plastic which has a matte finish on one side (shown above) and a gloss finish on the other side for when you want a reflection. There is also a small black clamp (barely visible in front of the jumble of white cable) to attach a strobe head underneath allowing you to produce a white "spot" which is great for illuminating things like perfume and other liquids.

Here's an example of using the underside spot & shiny surface (taken back in May and not properly prepared as you can see by the dust and fingerprints)

Nice set up, except for the short legs. And as usual some very fine images, which I am sure you will improve on in very short order.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. Beautiful shot -- dust and all!

Cyclorama wall -- that's another new term for me.

    Thanks for the explanation.
