    Pike Place Market

It's taken me a couple days to get the guts to post this.

Pike Place Market is one of my favorite places. I love the yellow lighting, people, neon lights and colorful flowers. This picture is what Pike Place is to me.

    I'd love some constructive criticism.

    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

    Re: Pike Place Market

Nice, I've been there, seen that. Would have liked a decent camera on that trip.

First thought was I'd like just a bit more DoF to include that first bunch of flowers on the left in
    the paper.
Second thought is I'm not so sure
Because if everything at the front was sharp, I'm not sure the background would work.

I still think I would clone out the light in the top right. It spoils the line of the other lights on the right by being much higher. Cropping from the top I would not try, because you'd lose the neon sign.

    Re: Pike Place Market

Good image - and I think the DOF is just right. You captured the essence of the market well and the comoposition is spot on. I think about the only thing I would be inclined to do would be to tone down just a tad the brightness of the top left (which draws the eye a little) - not much, just a little to provide more balance.

    Good shot though.

I have nothing to add on top of Paul or Mikes comments, other than nice work.

DOF for me is spot on.

    Re: Pike Place Market

Thank you for your comments. I'm going to try and tone down the sign in ps. Those are the types of things my untrained eye doesn't see.

As for dof. This is a topic I'm reading with fervor and still trying to wrap my brain around.

Thanks again for the critiques. It a great learning tool for me.

    Re: Pike Place Market

I agree this is a good composition and your focusing on an element close in the foreground did well at limiting the dof and rendering what would be a very busy background into an atmosphere that compliments the scene.
    Good work

    Re: Pike Place Market

I went to Folklife today but thought about going to the market. In younger years I would have done both in one day but the market is definitly on my to do list.
Places like the market are hard because there are sooooooooo many pics to be taken.

I too would like more depth of field so between the all of us, its a toss up, I guess.

I'm distracted by that vertical white light on the right. I'd think about cloning it out. JMHO. Otherwise, this is a darned nice shot.

Very good viewpoint and composition but I would like a bit more dof so as the people are included a little more and are not a total blur.

    Re: Pike Place Market

If the neon sign on the upper right corner was complete (it's cut off, just a wee bit though), it would make this a much stronger picture. I do like the shallow DOF though. Was that with the f/1.8 50 mm?

The critiques are great. Thank you everyone.

The pic isn't cropped, but I wish it was. The sign on the left really does need to not be cut off. It screams Pike Place to me.

    ss 1/50
    aperture 4.5
    iso 800
    focal length 65 mm
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

Wow, great color and composition The plant looks so sharp and alive.. and the background fades so well. Very good technically. If anything, I might tone down the background lights a bit. But very good as is.

A very enjoyable image with the bright colors complementing the mood set by your composition and DOF choice.

I think this is a great picture! I love the DOF, even though the people are out of focus you can tell it is a busy happy place...the only distracting part is the the vertical white light on the right....great picture! very interesting!
