    Photos from a snowy outing

I decided to go riding in the snow to take some photos. Here is what I turned out with - let me know what you think about them. The first one is a self portrait.

As you can tell, I like "scene" shots that dont really have a single focus, but have an overall good look.

I like the first 3. It looks like a long but fun day.

The second one is my favorite, so much atmosphere in that shot!

I like that first one, puts the rider in perspective and it's not monochrome with those brown trunks.
Second one, I would have shot a little lower, put the clouds nearer the top of the frame and get in more foreground trees.
The rest, you're right there's no real subject.
That path is crying out to lead to something !

Re: Photos from a snowy outing

On the third one, I do have other versons of it with the clouds closer to the top and more trees at the bottom, but I liked how the clouds looked best in this one, as they were moving quickly so no two shots look alike.
The photo of the road I just happened to have the idea for as I was riding up it, and true, no destination is in the photo... it just makes it look like it keeps on going into the trees. I would have gone lower down had there not been a big nasty looking puddle there which would have made it look worse overall, not as clean.
Thanks for the comments. The photos might not be perfect, but with my hands freezing and trying to get home quickly, it was the best I could do.

    #3 is my favorite

Did you fall down much? I recall that last time I tried to ride my bike in the snow, I decided that it's too dang slick for me...might have to try again

Love the scene shots, a "subject" isnt always necessary, the scene itself is the subject and they make great backgrounds.

I like the second and third ones a lot, the track in the second one seems to lead you into the picture and the third one has a lonely feeling to it that I like.

    David

How did you get that self portrait - excellent.

I love #2 even though there is no destination because the photo is the track through the snow. Used to rally (cars) down roads like that in conditions like that in my youth (a long time ago).

#3 Just makes me think about skiing holiday coming up in February - To me its excellent

#4 I prefer to #5 as it shows more of the vertical trees.

Always a pleasure viewing your photos.

I get my self portraits with a 10 second timer on my camera - I set it up, press the button, and run.

That is where a remote comes in very handy. I use mine frequently.

Re: Photos from a snowy outing

Great shots overall. The SP is good and you can be happy about the results. I find the 2nd and last shots the best, but with the last one I wish you had angled the camera down a bit more so to get more of the reflection instead of the tree tops. The second shot's tracks are neat. Here I wish that they didnt end right in the middle of the frame like that, for it seems a tad bit cut in half? The left-side branch could also be viewed as a distraction, but others may like it there to balance the shot out.

This place sure looks pretty alright.

Re: Photos from a snowy outing

Great series. The second is my favorite. The third is stunning in scope. The nearest clouds are moving to the right and the furthest to the left. Balloonists like to use this phenomenon to ride "The Box". A little more contrast and color control and this could be marketable.

Re: Photos from a snowy outing

I could possibly add more color and contrast to the third one, although in reality there wasnt a lot of color to begin with.

I did realize when I was editing it that the second went into the middle, but without cropping more extensively, there wasnt anything I could do about that.

On the last one, if I remember right, if I were to go down farther, I would have only captured the ground in front of me, which was only white, so it didnt look like much.

Thanks again for all the views and comments and help.

I like them, especially #3, great scenery with the clouds and snow covered trees. Keep up the good shooting.

(Question only slightly off topic, Are you running any sort of studs in your tires at all?)

Nope, and that's why I had such a hard time riding in the snow at the depth it was at (about 8" of powder).
