From Photo to Illustration...Something a bit different

Ok, not sure if this is "kosher", but here goes,

I am a photographer who also loves to draw. I believe there are many inherent similarities existent between both processes. I frequently like to draw using photos as reference. Here is a recent attempt at such.

Is my rendering accurate to the photo?

(Again sorry if this post is out of place here, just figured photographers are also artists at heart, who could provide some critical thoughts regarding rendering, technique, ect.)

You've got a good start. I would lighten the shadows on her face and/or reduce the size and brightness of her lips (right side). They look like she's been stung by a bee. Should be an easy fix to help her lips look more visibly attached to her face.

I know how hard it is , well for me , to color photos so u got a good start to it. Just keep at it add lots of layers of color , the hair is the hard part. Also they way she overlaps makes me thing it's just a 3 headed person, maybe add like a glow or blur effect on the edges ?

Copyright law is difficult, and lawyers expensive, and even more so internationally.
I would guess this may go beyond copyright fair use, as it uses almost all of the original image 3 times.

nps474, I have no issues with anyone turning photos into illustrations, and I think here that you have some pretty effective results. A photographer that I know and have exhibited with in the past captures dance performers on a DSLR. He then converts them into what look like illustrations as you have done and then prints them out on large matt paper /fine art media. He then paints on those prints with brush or oil pastels and winds up with a completely mixed media piece of work with very nice result. He has been very successful and is fairly accomplished at this point.

Well, as you guessed what you have done by using someone elses image is not kosher. I believe you meant no harm by it, but still I will have to take them down.

Have a read at our forum guide lines at the top.

Your off to a fine start in this but just use your own images in the future
