    Phantom Skaters

We try real hard to have winter here in San Diego. Even to the extent of an outdoor ice skating rink. Go ahead, laugh. I do, I came here from Minnesota. The skaters are as much a figment of our imagination as is a white Christmas.

I am somewhat disappointed they are not in bathing suits.

Other than that it is a nice image but the white balance seems off to me on the yellow side. I'd like the ice to be white.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    MB,

Now that would have been the better shot; ice skaters in bathing suits in San Diego. I had horrible lighting to work with, hot orange/yellow flood lights. We can make ice but we don't see it often enough to know what color it is.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it.

    Re: Phantom Skaters

    Hi CF:

I think overall this image could be brighter. For example, the top part of the picture beyond the rink looks a bit too dark (minus the building lights), and it seems that you tried a flash on the closest two phantom skaters. I think in this situation here you'll probably need to use a longer exposure with the short flash, so first the two skaters would be captured initially while letting the rest of the background expose. I'm guessing the woman in red has dark hair as the reason why her head is cut off, so I would recommend having her closer to the flash to give her hair some light.

    Seinfen:

Thanks very much for the comments. But, if I may, the reason the area at the top of the image is dark is, a.) there is nothing behind the rink to expose, and b.) it is night. I did use a light flash to capture the skaters but the intent was to ghost them and while I did not intend to cut off the woman's head, I did not intend to fully expose the skaters. I agree it could be lighter, less dark, but I achieved exactly what I had hoped in the "phantom" images.

Just the same, I appreicate you taking the time to offer comments.
