    Pensive

My friend Macca and I had spent the afternoon trekking through the forests and villages in the Northern Highlands of Laos around Luang Prabang..We had consumed a few bottles of BeerLao on our return..When this image was taken Macca looked very relaxed

Relaxed is a kind word I think, but I like how you framed the shot with the plants. I wish his arm wasn't in front of his face but you captured his charactor very well.

It wasn't worth the aggravation! Blurred foregrounds don't work, unless it is well done stylistically with an effect or filter that is appropriate.

    hmmm.

-hand obscures the face too much
-I think color isn't necessary here. B&W or tones would work better for me.
-plants are a distraction. needs tighter crop on subject
    -lighting is good.

    Re: Pensive

IMO the plants are a little too OOF for me

this is a great shot, with great expression/personality, the plants framing him do add depth though and the composition is good, maybe without the background objects and a larger DOF? (the background is fine as is, but a larger DOF might bring it in focus if you're not careful)

Crop suggestion: a bit from the bottom, keep the left top leaf and some on the right, maybe a little below the top left leaf.
