    Peacock on Fantasy Island

We went to the Los Angeles Garden Show last weekend, which was held at the Los Angeles Arboretum, which is where the OLD television show "Fantasy Island" was filmed.

    As always C&C welcomed....

The image is so colorful and busy that the peacock gets lost.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I agree with MB, I think a tighter crop towards the peacock to push the focus towards it might help.

    Re: Peacock on Fantasy Island

The peacock does get lost - or, rather, blends into its surroundings - but does it have to be the focus of the image?

The treatment, to me, is vintage PRB. I don't know how you do it, but it's a very distinctive look which evokes a certain autonomic emotional response. Like Maurice Sendak's illustration or those in children's books like Goodnight Moon. I can't put my finger on the what or the why, but it's awesome.

it looks oversharpened and overcontrasted. The highlights are discordant against the dark edges, and the blacks are very very black. The peacock's whole head is getting lost, but the beak is *right out there*.

I think this would be beautiful with a softer, more watercolor feel. And possibly cropped so the peacock isn't so centered ... maybe about 1/5 off the bottom, 1/8 off the right, and 1/4 off the top.

It looks over saturated to me. Also the blueish patch just up and to the right distracts me from the peacock. It almost mimics the peacock's tail. Is that another peacock back there or what??

    Re: Peacock on Fantasy Island

I'm no expert, but I do think it would help to have the peacock stand out a bit more. I don't think cropping is needed, but perhaps a little off the bottom and the right would be okay. When I take a shot of a "grassy" scene, I find it often helpful to de-saturate the yellows, which seems to put the grass more in the background where it belongs.

    Re: Peacock on Fantasy Island

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to look and, for your comments

And, thank you to Dray for "getting" and "understanding" my work. Children love work by Maurice Sendak and, most "overgrown kids" love the work of Henri Rousseau (1844-1910).

In no way do I consider myself near their expertise, or brilliance, but I do like to try and, their work captivates me. My own spin on their work is the intensity of color that I insist upon, which I find that children are also in favor of. :wink5:

Again, I appreciate the input from everyone!

I like it as is. I says 'storybook' to me - though not a kids storybook (and definitely not 'Fantasy Island'). – TF
