    Re: Path

    That's a cool looking path.

The image seems a bit "flat" to me. A boost of contrast would help IMO.

Also, your focus point and shallow DOF seems odd to me. There is nothing of high value at the plane you have selected. For an outdoor shot, I would have imagined a significantly smaller aperture could have been used.

I see what you were going for and applaud your vision. Just slightly off in the execution.

Thanks for the great input Loupey, I'll keep those things about DOF and focal points in mind next time I come across a shot like this.

I also like the subject, I only wish it were leading my eye to something a little more interesting in the background.
The image does appear too dark. A quick levels adjustment could help.

    Re: Path

    Phil,

Interesting shot, I would agree with Loupey about the lack of contrast, but not a huge amount.

I like the composition in so far that the path leads to the gate but then a stray cable leads from the path diagonally upwards to the left up the fence which I find throws me a little and distracts my eyes from the rest of the photo.

A horse, sheep, pig... would have been good in the far field, but you can't always get what you want.

    Re: Path

Thanks all for the input, I am still learning and this has been such a helpful site with all the great input and all.
I actually spent a lot less time on this shot than I had wanted, I was out exploring the fields and barns at my great uncles farm when we visited him for Christmas, I was late for leaving and was jogging in from the field when this caught my eye, so I stopped pulled out the camera took a quick shot and then continued on my way.
Hopefully I will get a chance to go back there some time when everything is green and growing and there are some animals around, there were lots of photo ops that I spotted and many I'm sure that I didn't in my limited time there.
Thanks again to everyone for the input and feed back, its greatly appreciated.

    Re: Path

Now that there are some technical comments, it seems okay to make one that is just opinion....

I liked the photo - it immediately made me picture a tavern on the other end of the trail. It is intriquing and tries to draw me into it.

    Re: Path

Thanks again to every one for the input and positive feedback on the shot. I wasn't sure about it but posted it up for a learning experience, and since I am also still learning a lot about PS and PP I gave it another run. Let me know what you think about this one, I'm still trying to get the hang of this levels, curves and other adjustments there are.
