    pastoral scene

Had to fight contrast and not having tripod with me. Was able to lighten grass in pp and with some judicious cropping came up with this.
    Is it too soft?

    Re: pastoral scene

Frog, it is difficult to tell at this size about sharpness and other rechnical issues, but it does appear soft to me. I would crop a slither of the fg off to bring the horizon line down a bit more and the horses out as well. I am noticing some odd hints of blue colors on the lighter horse and also an area of the fg grass
i like this scene alot and hope there is enough there for you to tweak.
    Good stuff, Frog

    Re: pastoral scene

For me, it's got just a bit too much saturation; doesn't look realistic on the color of the trees and the greenness of the grass. At that size it's hard to tell sharp or soft, but I can see detail in the mountain and in the tree branches, so it doesn't look too bad.

Overall, I like the composition; there are lots of interesting places for the eye to fall. And what a beautiful landscape!

It does look a tad soft, but I believe it has to do more with size. The photo is really to small to be able to make fair judgment. What I do see is the beautiful snow covered mountain, beautiful skys, but I can't really see the horses all that well and it appears that there is a marsh or a lake there in the foreground...I would love to see a large picture. Overall, It is a nice photo and well thought out.

Very nice Frog Lovely composition. I agree it the others that it does look a tad soft. I would also back off on your blue saturation as well. Any chance of posting a larger size?

    Re: pastoral scene

Ty......the good thing is I can get to this place with ease though the ditch, fence, and stickers make it hard to set up a tripod.
The foreground and basically everything below the trees was almost all in shadow except some sun on the whiter horse and the blaze on the one on left.
The blue in grass is a puddle/pond and the horse does have gray patches which do look a bit blue due to what I agree now is over saturated blue.
Shot at f5.6 with focus on mountain which is why I'm thinking the foreground is a bit too soft.....smaller apertures just gave me too slow a shutter speed though I was using a fence post.
I'll see if I can figure out how to post larger one in gallery.

:blush2: Ok.....looked at suggestions.....went back and just to see what would happen opened the nef without doing anythin and clicked auto smart fix in ps elements 5. Its smarter than I, sometimes I guess as I think this one is probably better.
I also uploaded larger image in my gallery. link http://gallery.photographyreview.com...&ppuser=250919

    Re: pastoral scene

It looks alot better adjusted and the larger size allows one to appreciate alot more. Still hard to tell how sharp it actually is, but all things look better.

    Re: pastoral scene

I like it Frog. I can't tell if it is soft or not? But it's good to get in the habit on a shot like this to focus one third the way into a shot rather than just focusing to infinity. You will find your shots sharper front to back. The white horse shot at F/8 or higher would have worked. Click the link. I promise it works.

You started with a good composition but had problems with the processing. Your end result after re-doing was well worth the bother.
    No, I DON'T need that.
