    Paradise

I know, I know, I know. Way too much HDR here :blush2: I kinda like it in this one though! Let me have it!

    Re: Paradise

First thing I noticed that everything is clear and defined except for the house, it seems kind of blurry. The clouds are bothering me because you have these dreamy iridescence colors and then these stark white clouds. The trees in the foreground are kind of dull looking in the middle and bright green on the edges, not sure if that's the effect of the light or not and there's a strange little light (maybe lens flare or dust?) in that copse of trees to the lower right. Not even very noticeable now that I look at it. Those being my nitpicks; another spectacular view of a majestic mountain range.

    Re: Paradise

Scape, really great nitpicks by you. I missed the majority of those. I will go back to the layered PSD and address every single one of those. the light ghost thing I think might have been a dirty lens. Should be an easy fix. The other things you mentioned can also be fixed.

Except the clouds. I like them whtie and fluffy, maybe I should tone down the exposure on them. if not white, what other way should the clouds look? maybe a tad bit greyer?

    Thanks!

    Re: Paradise

Hmmm on second thought maybe it's not the clouds bothering me but the sky above them? It may just be my screen but it looks like an almost forbidding blue. And I wish they weren't covering up those snowy peaks but what are you gonna do? Flap them out of your way? Now THAT would be an interesting shot I always feel pretentious trying to critique other works when I can barely work myself around a camera -_-

    Re: Paradise

I see you have the 200 ft scaffold in your camera bag after all
Love the vantage point and the composition, but i think its way too contrasty and the sense of depth in the image is not there. The sky and clouds and mountains look so as though they can be just as close to us as the house. the light looks very hard in this scene and i think using an hdr process that would bring out the subtle tones and colors would be best.
    still, an exciting image

This is a spectacular image, with a lot going for it. Aside from the previously mentioned thoughts, I am seeing a heavy tint of blue on the mountains and valley in the back half of the image. I also think a little more grey to the clouds would be good, but not essential.

    Re: Paradise

This seems to be divided in blue and green halves by a semi-diagonal line, green half is fine but the blue looks kinda unnatural. Also HDR never seems to be kind to clouds, it makes them way too contrasty, perhaps they could be added with a non HDR layer.

    Re: Paradise

I like it. But the HDR is too much, as you said, especially on the bright rocky surface, and the clouds. Also, the fact that the shadows on the right side don't match the shadows on the left. I really like the perspective and angle, and the bringing together of a lot of scene in a single frame. The upper left corner detail just looks funky, and not in a good way, the clouds and sky both sort of come together in a strange white on white sort of way.

*edit - or is the left top corner just heavily cloned/healed or something?

    Re: Paradise

The sky and mountain shadow have the same color blue, and the clouds blend into the mountain a little too much.

Here is an edit for you:

Just as an aside, I wonder what the building in the foreground could be used for ?

    Re: Paradise

Thanks for the feeback all. I agree, it was a tad too much, even though it was appealing to me, It wasn't something i would actually print out. so I pulled back on all aspects. I brought in the normal sky and eased up on a lot of the harshness.

Pete. good question. looks like a shed, with maybe some equipment.

Also, this one might be a tad too magenta, but I'm gonna fix that when I have more time and before getting out my final print.

    Thanks again.

I like this last "edit" in what I'm guessing is much more like the original. I can feel the depth to this now and see more subtle detail and tonality.

I do live seeing more of the grey in the cliff's in this edit vs have the white "pop" so much...

    Re: Paradise

My critique would be that with a photo like this, with so many fantastic textures, the roof of that little house is really lacking. It just looks out of place the way it is. You'd expect to see an aging roof with signs of wear and some nice textures and it just lacks in that spot..

Other than that, I think it's a beautiful photo, nice composition and depth.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Re: Paradise

I LOVE this shot and have to say that the subject matter has HDR writ all over it. 2343's edit is great, too. What an unbelievable setting.

The pulled back version is a little too much so for me. I like the deep blue sky in the HDR versions.

Post processing aside... congrats on seeing this scene and capturing it this way in the first place. Wasn't even bothered by the rooftop until others mentioned it. All in all, beautifully done.
