    Painted

I put this is in "Viewfinder" in the bird thread, but thought I'd ask for your thoughts and comments, too...

Photographed today with a D70 and Sigma 50-500 at the 500mm end at ISO 800 and f/6.3 1/500 spot metered on the bird but -1.3 ev. Cropped, run through neatimage and levels and sharpness adjusted.

Nice. Maybe crop in closer to possibly appreciate the bird's (and branch) details more.

How much post work did you do on the shot? Did your f/6.3 give you that DOF or did you do that yourself? Pretty impressive lens.

Also maybe darken the background more so the lighter greens don't challenge the birds colors.

Either way, I bet this is a great 11x14...

I don't recall doing any post processing on this, other than some levels adjustment. The DOF field looks like that beacuse those trees are signifcantly further away from the bird than they look -- more than 100 yards. I think this is a crop, too. I remeber that the bird (a painted bunting) was far enough away that I couldn't identify it until I got it blown up on screen at home. I've only seen these birds a few times and only gotten this one shot.
